Car Seat Program

The health department’s car seat program is operated by a trained car seat technician, whose goal is to promote the proper installation and use of car seats. Two types of car seats are available, including a convertible seat, and a high back booster seat.  Occasionally there are infant seats available.

Missouri Child Restraint Law

  • Children must remain rear-facing in an appropriate child safety seat until they reach 20 pounds and are 2 years of age.
  • Children less than four years of age (regardless of weight) and children weighing less than 40 pounds (regardless of age) must use an appropriate child safety seat.
  • Children ages 4-7 weighing at least 40 pounds but under 80 pounds, and less than 4’9″ must be properly restrained in an appropriate child safety seat.
  • Children weighing at least 80 pounds or children more than 4’9″ must use a safety belt or booster seat.
